Matthew 3:1-17 (Spiritual Parallels in Parenthesis)
In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
2 "Repent (a Righteous Attitude of rejecting SELF), for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!"
3 For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ready the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight (Righteous)."
4 Now John himself had clothing made of camel's hair, and a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
5 Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.
6 They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins (a Righteous Attitude of rejecting SELF).
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Therefore bring forth fruit (a Righteous Mindset) worthy of repentance (a Righteous Attitude of rejecting SELF)!
9 Don't think to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I tell you that G-d is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
10 Even now the ax lies at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn't bring forth good fruit (a Righteous Mentality) is cut down, and cast into the fire.
11I indeed baptize you in water for repentance (a Righteous Attitude of rejecting SELF), but He (Messiah Yahshua) who comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He shall baptize you into the Holy Spirit (a Righteous Attitude, Character or Mindset).
Note: Do not assume that Yahshua used water baptism or you will be in error, as you will see.
12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire (unquenchable, yes, but eternal, no)."
13 Then Yahshua came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him (to establish a physical to Spiritual parallel or an anthropomorphism for expressing an attitude of Love for others and rejection of self as the reason for receiving the Holy Spirit).
14 But John would have hindered him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you (with the Holy Spirit), and you come to me?"
15 But Yahshua, answering, said to him, "Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill (eventually make replete) all righteousness." Then he allowed him.
16 Yahshua, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of YHWH descendingas a dove (in like manner), and coming on him.
17 Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, "This is my beloved (human) Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Note: Yahshua underwent two baptisms that day. (1) Physical Baptism (immersion) into water for an outward sign of repentance, and (2) Spiritual Baptism (immersion) into the Holy Spirit of YHWH.
4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching the baptism of repentance (rejection of SELF) for forgiveness of sins.
5 There went out to him all the country of Judea, and all those of Jerusalem. They were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins (immersion baptism into water for an outward sign of Spiritual repentance of the sin of SELF).
20 Then came to him the mother of the sons of Zebedee with her sons, kneeling and asking a certain thing of him.
21 He said to her, "What do you want?" She said to him, "Command that these, my two sons, may sit, one on your right hand, and one on your left hand, in your kingdom."
22 But Yahshua answered, "You don't know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with (of the Holy Spirit)?" They said to him, "We are able."
23 He said to them, "You will indeed drink my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with (of the Holy Spirit), but to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give; but it is for whom it has been prepared by my Father (Yahweh)."
Note: The implication here is that you must be able to drink of the (bitter) cup (of persecutions at the hands of the self-centered) that Yahshua drank of, because it goes "hand in hand" with the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Also, note the inequality between Yahshua and Yahweh; obviously The Messiah is NOT G-d!
49 "I came to throw fire on the earth, I wish it were already kindled.
50 But I havea baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!
51 Do you think that I have come to give peace in the earth? I tell you, no, but rather division.
24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus. He was mighty in the scriptures.
25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit (passion for Yahshua), he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Yahshua, although he knew only the baptism of John (of water unto repentance).
Note: obviously the word "only" indicates that there must be another baptism, and one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is the understanding of G-d's Will (a Spiritual mindset). Therefore, the word "although", which emphasizes that fact.
It happened that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples.
2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They said to him, "No, we did not so much as hear whether there is a Holy Spirit."
3 He said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They said, "Into John's baptism (of water towards repentance only)."
4 Paul said, "John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, on Yahshua."
5 When they heard this, they were baptized into the name (his ministry or reputation) of the Lord Yahshua.
6 When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other languages, and prophesied (two of the gifts of the Holy Spirit).
3 Or don't you know that all we, who were baptized into Messiah Yahshua (does not say into repentance), were baptized (of the Holy Spirit) into his death?
4 We were (Spiritually) buried therefore with him through baptism (of the Holy Spirit) to death (of "Self"), that just like Messiah Yahshua was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life (with selfless love).
5 For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his (spiritual) death (to SELF), we will also be part of his resurrection (share Eternal Life in the Spiritual "Image of Yahweh");
6 knowing this, that our old man ("Self") was crucified with him, that the body of sin (self-centerness) might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin ("Self").
7 For he who has died (to "Self") has been freed from sin.
I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,
2 with all lowliness and humility, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love;
3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit (Holy Spirit or Righteous mindset of Yahweh) in the bond of peace.
4 There is one body, and one Spirit (Holy Spirit), even as you, also, were called in one hope of your calling;
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism (of the Holy Spirit),
6one GOD and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.
12 having been buried with him in baptism (of the Holy Spirit but not of water), in which you were also raised with him through faith in the working of G-d, who raised him from the dead.
1 Peter 3:19-21
19 in which he also went and preached to the spirits in prison,
20 who before were disobedient, when the longsuffering of G-d waited patiently in the days of Noah, while the ark was being built. In it, few, that is, eight souls, were saved (physically saved, but not spiritually) through water.
21 This is a (physical) symbol of the (spiritual) baptism, which now saves you - not the putting away of the filth of the flesh (repentance of sin or selfishness), but the answer of a good conscience ("Righteous Mindset") toward G-d, through the resurrection of Messiah Yahshua,
16 Yahshua said to her, "Miryam." She turned herself, and said to him, "Rhabbouni!" which is to say, "Teacher!"
17 Yahshua said to her, "Don't touch me, for I have not yet (Spiritually) ascended to my Father; but go to my brothers, and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, and my G-d and your G-d.'"
18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had said these things to her.
19 When therefore it was evening, on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were locked where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Yahshua came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be to you."
20 When He had said this, He shown to them His hands and his side. The disciples therefore were glad when they saw the Lord.
21 Yahshua therefore said to them again, "Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you."
22 When He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit!
Note: We have now seen two methods whereby the Holy Spirit was received, and none was by water baptism, not even that of Yahshua. (1) The laying on of hands, and (2) being breathed on (from Greek the "emphusao"; Strong's #1720; "to puff or blow air on", and comp. #5453 to cause growth).
